National Dog Day

The National Dog Day Foundation is working diligently to raise needed funds for public awareness about the plight of dogs in our country. With its first annual National Dog Day Parade coming to New York City in 2007, proceeds from the pre-events and the parade will go to help animal rescue organizations and call attention nationally to dog issues with the hopes of impacting the outreach of animal rescue organizations across the country. National Dog Day’s goal, through public awareness, is to be a catalyst for the adoption of a minimum of 10,026 dogs on that day across the nation by participation of all animal shelters and rescue groups. Shelters that are closed on Saturdays will be asked to stay open, and everyone who adopts a dog on National Dog Day will receive a special National Dog Day “thank you” and adoption certificate as a keepsake of the day. National Dog Day will turn out to be many a dog’s birthday and for all of them it will be a “K9- 4th of July!” Even citizens who are not dog owners will be encouraged to donate $5 to their local shelter on National Dog Day.
